Total Recall: a review

I have watched this film last night on it's first week of showing in the Philippines, and this was initially released on the first week of August in the United States.
Total Recall is a 2012 science fiction action movie remake of the 1990 film of the same name, which was previously starred by Arnold Schwarzenegger. In this 2012 film, Douglas Quaid was played by Collin Farrell, together with the other main casts, Kate Beckinsale and Jessica Biel. Compared from the original film, this movie has a different plot that does not include the trip going to Mars.
The story happened at the end of the 21st century after the 3rd World War devastation when the remainder of the Earth was divided only into two territories: the  United Federation of Britain and The Colony. Most of the residents of the Colony travel to UFB to work in their factories via "The Fall", a gravity elevator which travels through the Earth's core. The population of both UFB and Colony is overcapacity because of the minimum habitable space remained on the surface of the Earth.
Most of the story remains true to the original but there are some changes in the story line that will give you a different viewing experience. Since this is a remake, the central story is retold and the special effects are up to date with the technology that added a dazzling appeal in the aspect of  cinematography. It is spontaneously presented, with minimal "dull moments" as the chase will put you to the edge of your seats.
I have seen the 1990 original Total Recall movie from a DVD when I was still a kid, but there are only few scenes that I remember from it. So you might want to see the original first to compare. But even if you haven't watched the 1990 film, the movie can still stand alone, as it has a new story and version to show. I love Kate Beckinsale (Lori) on her fight scenes, just like her style in Underworld movies.. :)
I give 3.5 STARS for this movie, something to watch over the weekend.
